Job description

As part of the continuing growth of Safran Engineering Services UK we are looking to appoint our next Engineering Technical Lead, based near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire to support the development of an auxiliary power source for a combat aircraft.

Reporting to the Programme Manager, the Engineering Technical Lead will drive the deliverables of significant projects within a major strategic military programme. Accountable for the delivery of mechanical engineering technical solutions related to one/multiple systems/sub-systems, such as air-turbine motors, gear box, thermal battery, generator, and hydraulic systems.

Key responsibilities include:
Providing technical leadership and direction to the programme team.
Defining, delegating and reporting status of the technical progress on development of the sub-systems.
Participating in Design/Engineering Reviews throughout each milestone of the programme ensuring all customer requirements are consolidated and necessary follow up actions are taken.
Identifying technical project risks, mitigation actions and contingency plans.
Maintaining the engineering quality and integrity of the technical deliverables.
Leading and managing the technical engineering input required for design and programme reviews.
Leading design to cost and manufacturing objectives.
Establishing and maintaining engineering metrics to produce engineering deliverables, on time, on quality aligned with technical requirements.
Communicating effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers.

Candidate skills & requirements

Engineering degree or HND equivalent in a mechanical engineering field and proven related mechanical engineering experience.
Significant experience leading a technical product development from customer requirements to start of production.
Customer facing experience
Experience of monitoring and delivering a technical project plan.
Proven mechanical engineering capability and experience to create effective engineering solutions.
A working knowledge of manufacturing systems and sub systems integration and assembly.
